10 Things to Know About Me…
1. Ayanna [uh-yah-nuh ]
(Swahili: means “a beautiful flower in the desert”)
2. I am loyal and respect those who also choose this path.
3. I love words (and books) and believe that they can be used to uplift or tear down; I choose the former.
4. Sometimes I observe more than I speak. Like Maya Angelou, I believe that when people show you who they are, you should believe them.
5. I’ve learned the hard way that the truth isn’t in everyone—but still, like dust, I rise.
6. I am a tea girl

7. Tennis is my outlet. I’ve competed on several #1 USTA league teams and gone to Nationals twice in Arizona (but my love for the game started with ping pong—I played in tournaments as a teen at summer camp, and I used to be the only girl waiting in line to play with the fellas in college). As of 2020, I am now the Board President for the Montgomery County Tennis and Education Foundation (MCTEF). Things have come full circle for me since the time I picked up a tennis racquet as a young girl!
8. I love the finer things in life but can also go to Target and make something beautiful, whether it’s clothes or home décor.
9. I’m always challenging myself to learn new skills and things because that’s just how I roll.

In addition to daytime marketing and In the Morning blogging, I also provide freelance marketing support. In fact, one of my proudest accomplishments to date started from a chance conversation 10+ years ago that I had with a powerful, well-renowned speaker and former Spelman College president while sitting in a Northern Virginia hair salon on a Saturday morning trying to maintain my pretty. She asked, “Can you…?” and I said, “Of course.”
